lost in doubt

My intuition tells me one thing -
it leads me down the path that feels right.
It is doubt, however, that causes me to stop.
I hear its taunts and feel its fear.
And just as I am about to assume my distinction,

It whispers - then shouts- I am, in fact, the fool.

Doubt, samshaya, is the second obstacle in yoga ~ but perhaps the most powerful obstacle in life.  What else could cause us to second guess not only our intuition - but the facts themselves?  As we journey our path, the signs are clear.  We almost cannot help but follow.  Signs are clearly lit and opportunities act as guard rails, keeping us from going devastatingly astray.

But you see, there is this passenger that sits beside us.  Blind to the signals you know and see - doubt insists they are not there.  Promises you are hallucinating, and in the end, will reveal yourself the stooge.

Doubt is not driving.  You are.  Keep your eyes open - on the outside and within.  Do not ignore where the universe leads you . . . it is doubt that needs to be ignored.

"Look within. Thou art the Buddha. Believe nothing just because you have been told it, or it is commonly believed, or because it is traditional or because you yourselves have imagined it. Do not believe what your teacher tells you merely out of respect for the teacher. But whatsoever, after due examination and analysis, you find to be conducive to the good, the benefit, the welfare of all beings - that doctrine believe and cling to, and take as your guide."

~Siddhartha Gautama (the Buddha) (563-483 BC)
