40 days

the number 40 has long held special significance amongst various religions.  it is the number of days and nights moses stayed on the mount, it rained on noah, and Jesus fasted in the desert.  a person's tongue must be clean of gossip and wine for as many days, in order for Allah to accept their prayers.

and it is by no coincidence that it is also 40 weeks that a woman carries her baby before giving birth - new life.

the 40 days/weeks are meant for a time of testing.  its duration meant to prepare for a renewal, a transformation - a new life.

tomorrow is the first of 40 days of lent.  and tomorrow i will begin my own 40 days of renewal.

when i was a kid, lent was the time we gave something up - or did without.  like chocolate.  or fighting with my sister.  (neither of which ever made it past day 10).  not this year.  this year i will abandon the ritual of sacrifice (although i do hope to shed a few pounds) - and embrace a new ritual of indulgence!

thus tomorrow i will begin my forty days of yoga.  every day.  won't skip one.  promise.

now . . . it would be great to have some company.  keep me honest if nothing else.  so if you too would like to join, send me a note - or subscribe to this blog - and i will make sure to include you in this journey.  i will share with you not only tips for your yoga on the mat - but guidance off the mat as well.

     day one:  down dog yoga (9:30 a.m.) . . . stay tuned!
