day one . . . 39 to go!

congratulations . . . you've taken the first step and made the c.c.c.c.c.ommittment!

as with everything in life, 80% of success is just showing up.  (i borrowed that from woody allen)

i won't lie to you - the road ahead will be long and our climb may seem steep at times. . . ok - these are president's words now - but they still apply!  let me tell you -  i know all too well that my good intentions only get me so far.

there will be days that life gets in the way.  we may feel start to feel discouraged.  ready to give up, even.  then think to ourselves, why did i ever agree to do this?

well . . . why did you?

tip #1:  get real clear about why you are making this amazing resolution.  put your intention into words and those words into a sentence - then write it down.  in a journal or on a post-it.  maybe many post-its. and then post away.

on your bathroom mirror . . . your computer keyboard . . . the dashboard in your car.  like that old civil war anthem proclaimed, *keep your eyes on the prize*

tip #2:  be organized.  every week, plan your schedule.  decide what days you can get to a studio and plan for the days you know will be challenging and practice at home.  if you know you lose steam by late afternoon - practice in the morning.  if your morning is jam packed - schedule time in the evening.

consider waking up a half hour to an hour earlier than usual on your most harried days and just bang out 5 sun A's and 5 sun B's.  that's all it takes.  done.

tip #3:  enlist a friend.  enthusiasm is contagious and lets face it - peer pressure is crazy effective.  (just ask any teenager).  remember, you don't need to do this alone.

tip #4:  this one's the hardest - be patient.  now that you've made this decision, don't be surprised if all of a sudden the planets seem to align in a way to make it seem impossible for you to continue.  its all part of the plan.  a test of your determination, sure, but also a test of your patience.  allow yourself to be human and practice them both!
