day 21 . . . weathering the storm

Without storms, there would be no surf.  The winds generated by cyclones, hurricanes, and low pressure systems churn up the surface of the ocean; and the nastier the storm, the bigger the surf that is ultimately generated by it.  *chris bickford, burn magazine

its day 21 for me and i have to share - my yoga practice has begun to unravel.  its not pretty and i'm struggling.  what used to be effortless is now challenging.  for whatever the reason, my flow has been disrupted . . .

anyway . . . after class, i caught up with a friend.  she's been having a really rough time . . . struggling, questioning, in true agony.  her heart is breaking - and mine as well, for her.

she is, in fact, in the midst of her own personal storm.  a terrible storm.  the world is heavy and gray.   the harsh and relentless wind steals her stability - and that of everything around her.  rattled and frightened by the unpredictable clashes that taunt and threaten, she is desperate for shelter.

which, this afternoon, perhaps i can share.  for just a bit.  but soon - she will be back in the storm.  a storm she must weather.

*her solace is the knowledge that without the storm, there would be no surf.  and the nastier the storm, the sweeter the ride that awaits*

i know this to be true.  sometimes we need to have our surface churned.  our strength challenged.  and everything we are sure of, put to the test.

it sucks and its scary.  now.   my friend is weary and unsure it will pass.  it will

and on the other side of this angry surge is something truly awesome -  a helluva ride she would never had known and will truly appreciate

and you know what?  the fact that i am now, a tornado on my mat, must indicate i too am on the verge of a breakthrough . . . i guess we'll see!
