my other yoga . . .
i'm making "black gold" in my back yard. gold, because it is so fertile, rich in nutrients, and so valuable to my plants. and black, because its . . . well . .. black.
yes, i have not one, not two, but three areas of compost for my garden.
every scrap from the kitchen, including fruit peels, left over vegetables from dinner, coffee grinds, egg shells, and even paper towels and other organic materials all goes into my kitchen bins, and later dumped in the "fast - cooker" outside.
but that's not all. we also have a place - our "slow-cooker" - for all our mulched leaves, grass clippings, and small twigs from the yard.
with the right amount of moisture, heat, and a mix of materials - all this breaks down and makes the richest, most fertile soil. we feed it to our roses. we till it into newer garden beds. we use it when we plant or transplant. and best of all - its cheaper and easier than buying bags of soil from home depot!
you see, gardening is my other yoga. it brings me an amazing sense of balance, peace, and joy.
so, of course - i was thrilled to be featured on this week's video episode, compost and yoga, from rebecca plants ! below is a clip from her visit:
