tuesday's tip

its official . . . according to the u.s. centers for disease control, virginia is one of 26 states reporting widespread influenza activity.

this is very unusual for september, therefore the presumption is that these flu-like illnesses are probably the H1N1 virus.

yep, that's right - - - the dreaded swine flu.

my family is not taking this news this lying down . . . we are prepared to fight!  that's right, i'm talking supplements. i'm not talking the hokey witches-brew kind of stuff, but research based, proven prevention:

the journal, phytochemistry (july, 2009) found extracts of elderberry fruit significantly blocked the ability of H1N1 to infect cells, thereby effectively prevented infection.

  • N-Acetyl Cysteine
  • 1,200 mg. of this amino acid breaks up mucus, preventing and alleviating flu symptoms
an italian study specifically examined this amino acid for its ability to help prevent the H1N1 flu.

  • Chlorella
  • a fresh water, green algae, been found to be the most powerful super food
promotes t-cell activity, thereby equipping the immune system to effectively fight off bacteria and viruses.

Other supplemental considerations include american ginseng (found to reduce the incidence of acute respiratory illness) and a neti pot (just ask oprah!).

do you have any other suggestions?  feel free to add your 2 cents . . . or in this case, supplements!

I got my kids to use a neti pot for the first time! It didn't last too long, but hey, they had an intro!

Do you have one pot for each person in your family or do you just put it in the dish washer after washing one out with soap and hot water?
