monday's mantra

who says i can’t be free?
from all of the things that i used to be
re-write my history
who says i can’t be free?

(john mayer)

we don't have to be the person of yesterday.

no one says we have to be afraid of the same things we were afraid of in younger days . . . for we have faced far worse, and bravery is now ours to claim.

no one says we must make the mistakes we once habitually repeated . . . we've taken our hard knocks, accepted our lessons, and its time newer mistakes stepped in, with fresh lessons.

no one says we have to root ourselves in the shoes of our history . . . perhaps we have outgrown the size or the style, once so befitting, no longer represents the person wearing.

no one says we must remain chained to old patterns and habits . . . especially if it is the freedom from these we crave.

we hold the key.  we have the power.

and anyone who tries to keep us locked into a history no longer useful, well . . . who says we must keep them around?

*who says i can't be free?*
