monday's mantra: get started
no one's ever crossed the ocean
she called the pose. some of us tried it . . . and some of us watched others try it.
by just looking at it . . .

"if you're ever going to learn to do a headstand - you're going to have to try to do a headstand. if you're ever going to learn a forearm balance - you're going to have to try to do one. again and again. that's how you learn."
"no one's ever crossed the ocean by just looking at it."
so what keeps some of us from starting that journey? not just some prized asana - but other great feats. like going back to school? (congratulations niya, on your first day today!) or writing that book? (kudos to kimberly, with her second amazing book, tranquilista!)
whatever it is you would like to do . . . in order to accomplish - one day, you must start.
maybe its time that holds you back - then make time.
or fear - in which case, do it anyway.
or money - begin to set aside what you need, today.
i would like to thank my teacher this weekend for suggesting that i simply begin. (she had no idea what, but that's ok, because i do.) she was not interested in the reasons i haven't - because regret is tied the the past, and the past is gone and not real any longer. she was not interested in my final outcome - because that's the future, something that hasn't even happened yet, so its about as real as the past.
the only thing real is today. right now. and i can sit and watch.
or i can start.

all your dreams are on their waysimon & garfunkle

Perfect for this Monday morning. There is no longer "so much at stake" - that is a reflection of the past and future. There is only now and how I want to be in this moment.
